Stuck on You is a rock and roll song that was released in 1960 as Elvis’ first single after his two-year stint in the US Army. It was written by Aaron Schroeder and J. Leslie McFarland and published by Gladys Music, Elvis’ own publishing company. The song was recorded on March 21, 1960 at RCA Victor studios in Nashville, with Elvis on vocals and acoustic guitar, Scotty Moore on lead guitar, Hank Garland on six-string bass, Bob Moore on double bass, Floyd Cramer on piano, D.J. Fontana and Buddy Harman on drums, and The Jordanaires on backing vocals.
The song was a huge hit, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in late-April 1960 and staying there for four weeks. It also reached number one in Australia, Canada and the Netherlands, and the top ten in several other countries. It was Elvis’ first number-one single of the 1960s and his thirteenth overall. The song has a catchy melody, a lively rhythm and a playful lyrics that express Elvis’ devotion to his lover. He sings: “I’m gonna stick like glue / Stick because I’m stuck on you”.
The song was also featured on Elvis’ album “Elvis is Back!”, which was released in April 1960 and marked his return to the music scene after his military service. The album received critical acclaim and commercial success, showcasing Elvis’ versatility and maturity as an artist. It included songs from various genres, such as rock and roll, blues, pop, gospel and R&B.
Stuck on You was also performed by Elvis on the Frank Sinatra Show in 1960, which was a special TV program to welcome him back from the army. The show also featured other guests, such as Sammy Davis Jr., Nancy Sinatra and Peter Lawford. Elvis sang Stuck on You along with two other songs: Fame and Fortune (the B-side of Stuck on You) and Witchcraft (a duet with Frank Sinatra).
Stuck on You is a classic song that showcases Elvis’ charisma, talent and style. It is one of his most memorable and beloved songs, and it has been covered by many artists over the years, such as Lionel Richie, Tom Jones, Ricky Nelson and Cliff Richard.
