Elvis Presley – Is It so Strange

About the song

Welcome to my blog, where I share my passion for music and history. Today, I want to talk about one of my favorite songs by the king of rock and roll, Elvis Presley. The song is called “Is It so Strange”, and it was released in 1959 as part of the album “A Date With Elvis”.

The song was written by Faron Young, a country singer who was also a friend of Elvis. Young wrote the song after he fell in love with a woman who was already married to someone else. He wondered if it was so strange to love someone who didn’t love him back. He recorded the song in 1953, but it didn’t become a hit until Elvis covered it four years later.

Elvis recorded the song on January 19, 1957, at Radio Recorders in Hollywood. It was one of the last songs he recorded before he was drafted into the army. He sang the song with a lot of emotion, as if he could relate to the feelings of unrequited love. He also changed some of the lyrics to make them more personal. For example, he sang “Do you think I’m such a fool I don’t know my own mind” instead of “Do you think I’m such a fool I don’t know what’s on my mind”.

The song was not released as a single, but it was included in an EP that also featured “Don’t Be Cruel”, “I Want You, I Need You, I Love You” and “Hound Dog”. The EP sold over a million copies and reached number one on the Billboard EP chart. The song also appeared on the album “A Date With Elvis”, which was released in July 1959, after Elvis had returned from his military service.

“Is It so Strange” is a beautiful ballad that showcases Elvis’ vocal range and versatility. He sings with a soft and tender voice in the verses, and then switches to a powerful and passionate voice in the chorus. He also adds some of his signature hip movements and facial expressions when he performs the song live. You can watch some of his performances on YouTube .
